The Nettakallappa Aquatic Centre (NAC) is named in the honour of late Mr. K A Nettakallappa, former Managing Director of Deccan Herald and Prajavani group of newspapers and a passionate sports enthusiast. Mr. Nettakallappa was actively involved in supporting many associations including badminton, mountaineering and athletics during the early days of sports in Karnataka. He also encouraged and supported individual athletes such as Prakash Padukone, Kenneth Powell, Nirmala Uthaiah. In 2012 the NAC was established to foster a healthy swimming ecosystem in India bringing together the best of swimming education and talent.
NAC provides an opportunity for children to begin learning at a young age, continue to train with consistent coaching, and for adults to incorporate swimming as part of their approach to a healthy lifestyle. NAC is known for its holistic curriculum, hygienic conditions and professional coaches/teachers. The Aquatic Centre has three state-of-the-art pools viz. Long course pool, short course pool and a baby pool. Keeping in view the weather conditions, the short course and baby pools have a “temperature control” system for better learning experience and comfort.

NAC is managed by the K. N. Guruswamy Educational & Charitable Trust, a not-for-profit focused on education and sports, based in Bengaluru. The trust was founded by Shri. K. N. Guruswamy a renowned philanthropist who pioneered education and welfare activities in Karnataka. He was also the founder of The Deccan Herald and Prajavani group of newspapers. The management consists of experts from different sectors who have come together to ensure that best practices across education, management and swimming are implemented at NAC.
